So this year, well it’s been a weird one in terms of weather, first the Beast from the East gave us bone chilling cold, when on some days the heating was on 24 hours a day.
Now we have scorching temperatures the like of which I can only remember experiencing in 1976,but in those halycon days I spent most of my time in the pub with my mates, and the the only thing growing was my teenage libido. Anyway back to reality, fans on full time and watering the allotment every night just to keep things alive.
The Sweetcorn has thrived in this heat, but I can't say I have.
But the prolonged heat has answered the question about the tree, this year in Spring it blossomed and then fruited, the fruit certainly looked like Apricots, however at that stage it was was green and hard.
Even three weeks ago I doubted it I would get anything edible, but on coming back from a two week break I found the tree was hanging with ripe Apricots, which for the last week and a bit I have been eating stewed, or as they are off the tree, and giving some to friends and neighbours.
I don't know if we will see another Summer like this or if the tree will produce so much fruit again but it was a joy just to see those lovely bright coloured Apricots just waiting to be picked.
